No Condemnation
This verse doesn’t say there is less condemnation. It doesn’t say condemnation is waiting to pounce around every corner. It says there is NO condemnation! Yes, that means even for that one thing that Satan keeps whispering to your heart about—Don’t we all have that one thing we feel we must repeatedly lay at the foot of the cross?—even for THAT, there is no condemnation.
And that was where I was going to tie a neat little bow on my time with Jesus this morning when this other thought came out of nowhere. Satan tries to keep the burdens of guilt, shame, and regret piled so high that the cross isn’t visible under their weight. And we may successfully keep our burdens light, but what about others? Do we, with our long memories, inadvertently add to their burdens? Doesn’t Satan also whisper to us about others? “Remember when she did that one thing? Remember how he treated you that one time?” So when you see that person, even though they are walking in Christ and therefore in no condemnation, they see the reflection of their shame, and hence condemnation, in our eyes, and maybe, once again, it adds to their burden. This seems to be yet another argument for forgiveness, another reason not to judge. I pray that when I look at others, the only reflection they see from my heart is the light and love of Jesus, who came to save us ALL.
