Demolishing Religion
I often lament that I wasn’t brought up in the church and that my Biblical knowledge is lacking at many levels. However, I am learning more and more that if the relationship with our Father, through His Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, was not at the foundation of that time of youthful church attendance, then often all of that religion can impede the formation of what is most precious—our relationship with our Father, through the Son and with the guidance of the Spirit. Sometimes, church attendance was simply an obligatory box that was checked on an endless list of things to do in order to do all of the “right things,”…not in the eyes of God, but in the eyes of society. Like the Pharisees of Jesus’s time, there were a lot of rules that kept one from enjoying the purity of the relationship. So today, I pray that whatever walls of obligation or religion or even resentment which might have been built around your heart at some point during your journey, I pray that those will be demolished entirely so that the voice of your Father, spoken to your heart, and carried on the wind, is heard with perfect clarity as you turn to seek Him alone. I pray it is His heart you see everywhere!
